University Ranking The Most Reliable University Ranking

College and university rankings are the ranking of the education institutions. Rankings consider combinations of measures of funding and endowment, research excellence and influence, specialization expertise, admissions, student options, award numbers, internationalization, graduate employment, industrial linkage, historical reputation and other criteria. But there are transparency questions about ranking systems. The expanding diversity in rating methodologies and accompanying criticisms of each indicate the lack of consensus in the field. Further, it seems possible to game the ranking systems through excessive self-citations.

In order to come up with a transparent, accurate and reliable ranking, we have used the following methodology –

First we have selected 500 universities world-wide based on –

  1. Number of Nobel Laureates
  2. Fileds Medalists,
  3. Number of Highly Cited Researchers,
  4. Number of Highly Cited Scientific Papers and
  5. Index by Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCIE) and Social Science Citation Index (SSCI)

After forming the list of top 500 universities of the entire world (regardless of countries) we applied carefully selected ranking criteria and weights. Our ranking criteria and weights are –

Quality of Education:

To measure quality of education, we have considered the number of  alumni of an institution winning Nobel Prizes and positions of alumni in different top ranked national and international organizations. We have also considered the entrepreneurship and start-ups.

Quality of Education carries 30% weight out of 100%.

Quality of Faculty

To define quality of faculties we have considered the number of Nobel prize winning faculties and number of citations of research papers written by the faculties.

Quality of Faculty carries 30% weight out of 100%.

Research Output

Research output is the usefulness of research conduced from a particular institution.

Research Output carries 20% weight out of 100%.

Per Capita Performance

Per capita performance indicate the ration of students being enrolled and are graduating with above 80% marks.

Per Capita Performance carries 20% weight out of 100%.

Using the methodology described above, we have prepared world-wide university ranking, subject-wise university ranking and online university ranking.

As per survey conduced recently, our world-wide university ranking is 97% accurate. It is not possible to achieve 100% accuracy while preparing a ranking system. Because surveyors from different countries with different backgrounds always have different opinions. However, the accuracy we have achieved so far is better than most of the rankings available.

Ranking by Subject

In subject wise ranking, we have taken a little different approach. Instead of considering an university as a whole, we considered individual subjects and applied our ranking methodology on that particular subject. For example, we have checked the number of Nobel prize winner in Physics of an university. Then we figured out quality of faculties of Physics department. This is how applying our ranking methodology and depending on our ranking criteria, we have produced university ranking by subject.
