The Pierre Elliot Trudeau Foundation Doctoral Scholarship

Description: The Pierre Elliot Trudeau Foundation Doctoral Scholarship is the most respected award in the Humanities and Social Sciences. Each year, up to fifteen Doctoral candidates of Canada and other foreign countries is awarded. The candidates must choose a research topic of four mentioned themes. The opportunity is only for the students who desire to grow in a multidisciplinary learning environment and address an important question for Canada and the world.

Scholarship provider: The Pierre Elliot Trudeau Foundation, Canada.

Area of Study: Doctoral Degree in Humanities and Social Sciences on the following subjects-

  1. Human Rights and Dignity
  2. Responsible Citizenship
  3. Canada in the World
  4. People and Their Natural Environment

Benefits of the scholarship:

  • $40,000 per year for three years.
  • $20,000 per year for three years for research and travel allowance.
  • Writing and dissemination scholarship at 4th
  • Guidelines from renowned mentors on Canadian public life from 2nd

The participants must note that-

  • Only 208 applicants will be chosen for the competition.
  • Top 8 files of the candidates will be received from each
  • The candidates will go through screening and interview process by external review committee.
  • Only 15 final candidates will be awarded the scholarship.
  • The program supported 202 scholars in the past.
  • 2,426 nominations were received since 2003.

Eligibility:

  • Only the first or second-year full-time enrolled Doctoral students of Humanities and Social sciences are eligible to participate.
  • Students who are citizens of Canada (within or outside the country) can apply.
  • One-fourth candidate from emerging foreign nations but enrolled in Canadian Institutions will be given the opportunity to participate.
  • Candidates can be nominated by the Canadian or foreign institutions.

How to Apply:

  • Selection Committee will evaluate applicant’s file at first.
  • Students may need to include video through the web for semi-finals.
  • 30 selected candidates will be invited to Montreal Foundation Office for interview.
  • Nomination Review Committee and Board will approve final 15 scholars.
  • Students will be evaluated by the following criteria-
  • Academic Excellence
  • Communication Skill
  • Public Engagement
  • Willingness to participate in public dialogue
  • Willingness to be a part of the research community and transmit knowledge
  • Thematic relevance of the Doctoral research.
