Description: The Monash Indigenous Research Awards (MIRA) will be offered annually to encourage and support promising Indigenous students to commence a postgraduate research degree on a full-time on-campus basis. The awards aim to attract Indigenous students who are eligible to enter directly into a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Master of Philosophy (MPhil) or masters by research. The scholarship is also available to high-achieving students who may apply for a conjoint honours/research degree program.

Annual Comment: The scholarship is valued at $35,000 per year (paid in fortnightly instalments) for master or PhD students, or $10,000 per semester for honours students. Tenure is 2 semesters for honours students, 2 years for master students, and 3 years for PhD students. PhD students may apply for a 6-month extension.

Eligibility: Applicants must: be Indigenous Australians who meet all of the current eligibility requirements for entry into the relevant research degree (PhD, MPhil or masters by research) or honours program. In addition, applicants for the conjoint honours/research degree programs must have achieved outstanding results in the honours year in order to continue to receive the scholarship for the research degree. Current students already enrolled in a research program at Monash University are ineligible. Monash Indigenous Research Awards (MIRA) may be awarded for full time on-campus study only.
