Description: Melbourne Access Scholarships were established by the University of Melbourne and awarded to commencing undergraduate students who gained admission to the University while having experienced difficult circumstances that impacted on their Year 12 result. The University awards 170 scholarships per year, including 10 scholarships with a tuition fee exemption.

Annual Comment: The Melbourne Access Scholarship provides an allowance of $15,000 paid in 6 half-yearly instalments of $2,500. The scholarship may be extended with another year for students who enrol in the Bachelor of Arts Extended or a concurrent diploma at the same time as their Bachelor degree course at the University of Melbourne. Ten high-achieving students will also receive a tuition fee exemption for their Commonwealth Supported Place valued up to $30,500.

Eligibility: Applicants must: be Australian or New Zealand citizens or Australian permanent residents; have completed Year 12 or IB in Australia in the year prior to commencing their course at the University; not have been awarded results or subjects undertaken as part of a degree course at a tertiary institution in Australia; and have applied for Access Melbourne, the University’s special entry access scheme, using the VTAC Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS). Applicants must provide evidence that they have a disadvantaged financial background; are from a rural area or under-represented school; are experiencing difficult circumstances; have a disability or medical condition; are from a non-English speaking background; or are an Indigenous Australian.

Other Details: Students do not need to submit an application for this scholarship. Eligible students who have applied for admission to the University using the VTAC SEAS will be automatically considered for this scholarship. Scholarship offers are conditional on receiving an offer for admission to a University of Melbourne undergraduate degree.
