: Japanese Government Scholarships for International Undergraduate Students

Japanese Government’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) is providing scholarship opportunities to the international students who are intending to complete their under graduation n Japanese universities under Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program for 2015.

Area of Study:

Applicants have two major areas including Social Sciences and Humanities and Natural Sciences to study in Japanese universities. They must choose their major subject between these two.

  • The scholarship program will include school fees.
  • You will be paid 17,000 yen per month as allowance.
  • Additional monthly stipend of 2,000 or 3,000 yen for those students who will enrol themselves in some special states.

Eligibility:

(1) Nationality:

  • Applicant’s country must have diplomatic relationship with Japanese government.
  • Stateless persons are also eligible to apply.
  • Students who have Japanese nationality during the application will be considered as ineligible. But,  Students having dual nationality and living outside Japan are eligible if and only if they will emigrant from Japan by the time of arrival in Japan
  • Applicant’s screening process will be carried by Japanese Diplomatic mission in applicant’s home country.

(2) Age:

  • Applicant’s birth date must have been between born between April 2, 1993 and April 1, 1998.

 

 

 

(3) Academic Background

  • To become eligible applicants must have been finished 12 years of school education or having equivalent graduation that matches the Japanese upper secondary school. (Applicants, who will meet the above qualifications by March, 2015 will be considered as eligible).

Note:  Will also be considered as eligible if an applicant has satisfied the entrance eligibility in a Japanese university

(4) Japanese Language:

  • Applicants must have motivation and interest in learning local Japanese language and enhance their knowledge about Japan.
  • Applicants must have the intention to finish their college education in Japan

 (5) Health:

  • Applicants must be healthy enough both physically and mentally to finish their desired education in Japan.

(6) Arrival in Japan:

  • Applicant must be capable of reaching in Japan between 1st April 2015 to 7th of April 2015; or
  • Applicants who will start from fall semester are required to arrive in Japan by the specified date from his/her university.

(7) Visa Requirements

  • ‘College Student’ Visa (ryugaku,留学) is required in order to enter in Japan.
  • Visa should be issued by Japanese officials from the Applicant’s home country.
  • Changing an applicant’s resident status from ‘college student’ to any other will result him/her losing Japanese government scholarship student status.

How to Apply:

  • Initial screening process will be carried by Japanese embassy or consulate depending on the country.
  • As the process differs from country to country applicants are requested to collect information from Japanese embassy or consulate general in their home country.
  • Application deadline varies country to country but it will fall around April-May each year.
