Tenure is for 2 years for master students and 3 years for PhD students, with a possible 6-month extension.

Eligibility: Applicants must: be planning to commence, or be currently enrolled in, a graduate research degree in the human rights field at the University of Melbourne; have completed tertiary studies that are at least equivalent to a 4-year Australian honours degree with a minimum grade average of a high H2A; and be able to demonstrate that their commitment to the peaceful advancement of respect for human rights extends beyond their academic studies (such as voluntary work and/or work experience). International students must have an unconditional course offer at the University of Melbourne for the course for which they seek the support of a HRS. Scholarships are not awarded to students who: have already completed a course deemed to be at the same, or higher, level; have a maximum tenure of less than 12 months; and have previously received an MRS, Fay Marles Scholarship, Postgraduate Equity Scholarship, or an equivalent award which is regarded as one greater than 75 per cent of the base HRS rate.
