Description: GRATS (formerly TRIPS) provides PhD and Masters by Research candidates with assistance towards undertaking research-related activities that will enhance their thesis. This includes travel overseas or interstate to access otherwise unobtainable source material including interviews, data collection, archives or library resources; as well as short-term fieldwork (less than 3 months) and travel overseas or within Australia to present at a conference.

Annual Comment: The scheme provides a single entitlement of the following for PhD candidates: international travel – $1,500 for research or conference presentation, and $2,000 for research and conference presentation; national travel – $600 for research or conference presentation, and $850 for research and conference presentation. Master candidates receive $750 for either national or international conference presentation.

Eligibility: Applicants must: be confirmed and currently enrolled PhD candidates (i.e. not on leave of absence); apply within 3 years and 6 months from commencement of full-time candidature (pro-rata part-time); have School support; and have submitted a report for any previous GRATS (or TRIPS) funds received. Candidates who are on their second extension (3.5-4 years full-time equivalent) are not eligible to apply.
