Finnish Government Scholarship

Description:

The Finnish Government is offering scholarship (for a period of 3 to 9 months) to young researchers from all academic fields. This scholarship will be entitled to candidates for Doctoral level studies and research at Finnish universities/public research institutes.

This is not an application for academic placement rather an application for funding. To be eligible for this scholarship, candidates must at least hold provisional acceptance which can either be as a visiting Doctoral Student/researcher, or as a full-time Doctoral degree student. The scholarship cannot be applied for Master’s level studies or post-Doctoral studies/research.

Benefits of this Scholarship:

  • The tenure of the scholarship will be 3-9 months
  • A monthly allowance of EUR 1500
  • Travel/Insurance are not covered in this scholarship

Eligibility:

To be eligible, the applicant must have:

  • a completed Master’s degree
  • sufficient proof of speaking and writing for conducting study/research.

Exemptions from English Proficiency certificate: CIMO is exempted from IELTS or TOEFL (can be attached, if any). If the issued Letter of Invitation from Finnish university states the applicant’s skill as sufficient

  • contacted with the Finnish receiving institution prior to the application (please check ‘Doctoral Admissions‘)
  • a letter of invitation from the academic supervisor in Finland explaining the commitment of the host institution to the project
  • intention to pursue post-Master’s level studies as a visiting student, willingness to participate in a research project or teach at a university or public research institute in Finland; doctoral students will get priority
  • not completed more than 1 year at any Finnish higher education institution prior to the this scholarship period in Finland
  • candidates from the following countries are eligible to apply: Australia, China, Cuba, Egypt, Israel, Japan, Mexico, Mongolia, Namibia, Peru, Republic of Korea, Turkey, Ukraine, USA (Further information on Fulbright-CIMO grantscan be found on the Fulbright Online website)

How to Apply:

Candidates are requested to apply to the appropriate authority in their home country. For details of the appropriate authority in your home country, please click here for details of appropriate authority.

  • Annual application starts at the end of September each year
  • Candidates need to contact with the appropriate authority in their home country for information regarding the national deadline and must submit completed documents to the national appropriate authority.
  • the annual deadline for selecting the nomination of scholarship candidates by the national authorities is in the mid of February
  • Documents required for an application:
    • a completed application form (must have signature)
    • Curriculum Vitae
    • copies of certificates of latest diplomas officially translated into English, Finnish or Swedish (if in any other language)
    • two Letters of Recommendation
    • study or research plan (not more than 2-5 pages, together with a statement of motivation, goals, work plan, work method, expected results etc.)
    • invitation/expression of interest and motivation for cooperationfrom the hosting academic supervisor in Finland
    • language certificate (Finnish, Swedish or English) or other indication of sufficient language skills – please see above, in the section ‘Eligibility criteria’
  • For Application: Application can be achieved from national appropriate authorities or directly from CIMO.

  • Selection of candidates and scholarship decisions: Each National Appropriate Authority are entitled to present 10 candidates for the Finnish Government Scholarship Pool to CIMO. Both successful and unsuccessful candidates are informed by CIMO (through EMAIL). Final selection can be known by mid of June annually. Candidates who were among the selected scholarship candidates from National Appropriate Authority but did not receive decision letter, can contact CIMO.
