Description: The Faculty of Health and Medicine High Achiever Undergraduate Scholarships were established in 2013 to encourage high achieving students admitted to the Callaghan, Central Coast and Port Macquarie campuses of the University of Newcastle to enrol full-time in Faculty of Health and Medicine undergraduate degree programs at the University. The award will be offered to the highest ranked Indigenous Student commencing in any undergraduate degree within the Faculty of Health.

Annual Amount: $2,000
Annual Comment: The scholarship package varies depending on the degree the recipient is enrolled in. Bachelor of Biomedical Science: $1,000 per semester for 3 years; a Summer Scholarship and an additional $1,000 towards the Summer Scholarship; $1,000 to attend a national conference if the recipient proceeds to honours; and $2,000 to attend a international conference if the recipient proceeds to a Research Higher Degree. Bachelors Medical Radiation Science, Nutrition and Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Oral Health, Physiotherapy, and Podiatry: $1,000 per semester for the duration of the degree; a Summer Scholarship; an opportunity for an overseas placement during the degree; and/or an opportunity for a final year placement at a rural site. Bachelor of Medicine: $1,000 per semester for the duration of the degree; an iPad or upgrade to the recipient’s existing iPad; a Summer Scholarship in the 1st year of the degree; and an opportunity to undertake a European exchange in the 4th year of the degree. Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Midwifery: $1,000 per semester for the duration of the degree; a Summer Scholarship between years 3 and 4 of the degree if the recipient chooses to undertake honours; $1,000 to attend a national conference if the recipient proceeds to an honours year; an opportunity to participate in at least 1 Asia Pacific Alliance of Health Leaders Forum; and an opportunity to undertake a rural/remote clinical placement with a scholarship to cover travel, accommodation, and subsistence costs.

Eligibility: Applicants must: be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent; be commencing students in an undergraduate degree within the Faculty of Health and Medicine at either the Callaghan, Central Coast, or Port Macquarie Campus; be enrolled full time at the census date for each semester (part time only in exceptional circumstances); and be the highest ranked commencing Indigenous student within the Faculty of Health and Medicine. Aboriginality and/or Torres Strait Islander status will need to be verified e.g. Common Seal and/or Interview with Wollotuka. Selection will be on academic merit (namely ATAR).
