BRC Research Fellowships in Hungary

Deadline:May 25

Scholarship in Hungary

Fellowships

The Biological Research Centre (BRC) at Szeged is pleased to offer fellowships to conduct selected research programs in contemporary biology under the supervision of research staff of the BRC. Applicants of all nationalities are eligible to apply for these fellowships.

The Biological Research Centre (BRC), Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Szeged is an outstanding institution of the internationally acknowledged Hungarian biological research. The Biological Research Centre was founded in 1971. The 4 institutes of BRC – the Institutes of Biophysics, Biochemistry, Genetics and Plant Biology – employ about 260 scientists whose work is hallmarked by highly appreciated international scientific publications and patents.

Amount of Scholarship:

ITC fellows will receive a monthly stipend from the BRC at the beginning of each month. This amount is about 70-75% of the income of a PhD student in Hungary, however, considering the provided free accommodation, or the contribution to the accommodation fee, will cover modest living expenses for one person in Szeged.

  • BRC does not provide travel support. ITC fellows will have to cover the travel expenses of a round trip between their hometown and Szeged/Hungary including all associated costs such as the fee for the visa if needed. ITC fellows are expected to return to their home country after completing the ITC training.

Who Can Apply for this Scholarship?

The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for the scholarship:

(i) Applicants should be under 30 years, in good health. Preference would be given for those who have just finished their university studies. The health condition of the applicants must be appropriately documented by an official health care provider, as indicated in the application form. The result of all of the listed tests has to be specified.

(ii) Applicants should hold a university degree (M.Sc. or equivalent) either in natural, or medical, or agricultural or veterinary sciences. Some BRC laboratories may have additional requirements which are specified in the description of the research topics.

(iii) Proficiency in both verbal and written English should be documented in the application. Elected candidates for BRC fellowships will not be admitted to the course whose scientific background or knowledge of English turns to be inappropriate after arrival. These fellows will be asked to leave the course and return to their home country. BRC does not organize language course for the applicants.

(iv) ITC fellows are advised to take part the course without accompanying family members since their fellowship possibly will not cover the expenses of spouses. BRC cannot provide accommodation for families. Fellows bringing their families should arrange their own accommodation and cover the living expenses of the family members.

(v) Successful applicants must obtain study visa at the Hungarian Embassy or Consulate in their home country (except those who belong to the European Union) before coming to Hungary. A Letter of Invitation will be issued for this purpose. Initiate visa application early, because visa procedures may take several weeks.
